Well a lot has happened since I last wrote a post. The movers came and packed and loaded all our belongings on the truck. We said one last good bye to all our friends, got in the car on Thursday morning and headed south. It took us two 12 hour days to get to New Mexico. We drove through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Kansas was beautiful with all the trees, there was an amazing sunset in Oklahoma and I loved the cotton fields in Texas. The kids and the dog traveled really well. There were times it was completely silent for an hour at a time. Then as we got to the end of the second day we were ready for the trip to be over.
We had to stop in Lubbock Texas to pick up Eric's truck from the airport. We stopped at Joe's Crab Shack for our first real meal in two days. It was delish!!! We sat out on the deck in the beautiful warm sun. The kids got out of the car and couldn't believe how warm it was there.
We arrived in Carlsbad (after stopping in Hobbs to show the kids the new house) late Friday night. We are staying in the rental house that Eric's company is providing for us. Its small and it stinks but I am so thankful we have it. Our closing date on the new house has been pushed back a few times and what was supposed to be a few days here has turned into a week. A whole week of hanging out in the house with the kids (not in school yet). No friends, no toys, and they aren't able to run around the neighborhood or ride their bikes like they use to. So it has been challenging. We went to McDonalds, to the park and to Walmart many times. One day our big outing was going to the grocery store to buy a pizza and some salads for dinner. Yipee!
I thought that being home alone in Muscatine with out Eric was hard...but this week was even harder than that. I missed our old life and hadn't started my new one yet.
Well we finally closed on our new house today. We ran errands all day long today! We went in to sign the kids up for school. Boy was that an experience. Of all days...today was the day the students were getting their flu shots. So while Eric and I are filling out paperwork my kids are listening to the other kids screaming while getting a shot. All three of my kids were petrified that they would have to have a shot too. Peyton said "I don't want to go to that school, they have a bunch of whiners there." Ellie clung to my leg begging not to get a shot and Paige just sat there with tears in her eyes. It didn't go over very well!
Then about an hour later the school secretary calls me. She said that the Kindergarten class was full there and Ellie would be bussed from that school to another school in the morning. She would attend class at a different school then be bussed back. That did it!!! I started bawling. Throughout this whole time it was very important to me that all three of my kids went to the same school. I was considering homeschooling her. At this time of course Eric was not at all concerned or helpful. He said "She'll be fine." She may have been fine but I wouldn't have!
Thankfully the secretary called me back and said she was able to get Ellie into the same school as the other two. Eric said "way to go now some other kid is going to get shipped off to other school." I said "that's fine as long as its not my Ellie."
So anyway that catastrophe has been diverted. Everything is set and ready to go. The movers will be there tomorrow morning. This is our last night in the little (stinky) rental. We will be in our new home about 12 hours! I am really thankful that everything went smoothly...we were only apart from Eric for about six weeks...our house in Iowa sold fast...we had this house to go to in between...and our new house is ours!
