The New House

Well we have been in our new house for about a week now. We have unpacked a million boxes and still have a million in the garage. So far I am loving my new house. As soon as I get it organized and I know where everything is I will love it even more.

The kids' are not liking their new school much. Its a very nice newer building and the classes are small. Their teachers seem nice and they have southern/Texan accents. Paige said her teacher talks like a cowgirl. Peyton's teacher makes her kids tuck in their shirts or they have to do 10 push ups (he hates tucking in his shirt)and she makes them answer her with "Yes Ma'am." The school has very strict policies about tardiness, dress code and behavior in the hallways. I witnessed the secretaries yelling at the parents for dropping their kids off late. I tell you what...I will NOT be late!!! It has been a huge adjustment for the all of us. The school does not have the same atmosphere as McKinley.

Homework has been really different too. In Iowa Paige was reading at a very high level for 20-30 minutes a day every day. Here her homework is read 10 min out loud from a book of your choice once a week. She has had a A+ on almost every paper she has brought home. Ellie on the other hand is sounding out letters and reading! In Iowa she had one sight word to remember a week. In just one week here she is sounding out and reading!!! Peyton's Spelling words have been easier but he is struggling with math. In Iowa he was struggling with spelling and was breezing through math.

Another adjustment has been the hours. School starts at 7:40 (and don't be late) and gets out at 2:40. Every Wed. they get out at 1:30. It will be challenging to find a job that will work around those hours. I guess I just won't work. Oh bummer :)

The weather has been interesting. It does actually snow here! We had a snow/rain mix the other day. Mostly its been cold and frosty in the a.m. and warm and sunny in the afternoon.

Well I have al ot to do before the kids get home from school. We are going to Albuquerque to trick or treat with our cousins.

  1. Wow, lots of changes with school for sure. 7:40 is pretty early! Are you sure you aren't sending them to military school? :)
